Greetings! We’re glad you have chosen to “Get into the Swing of Better Dental Health". We appreciate your visit to our website to learn about the preventive dental services offered at your school by Dental Sealants and More.
Oral health is essential to overall health. Good oral health improves a person’s ability to speak, smile, smell, taste, touch, chew, swallow, and make facial expressions to show feelings and emotions. An estimated 51 million school hours per year are lost because of dental-related illness.
Dental Sealants and More is a school-based dental health program serving Central Illinois, including Peoria, Tazewell and Macon Counties since 1998. Our team of licensed dentists, licensed hygienists, and dental assistants takes portable equipment into schools to provide dental services. Services include prophylaxis (cleanings), fluoride treatments and dental sealants for eligible students. Students also receive oral hygiene instruction and nutritional guidance.
The Surgeon General’s report on oral health indicates that dental sealants can reduce decay in school children by more than 70 percent. The combination of sealants and fluoride has the potential to nearly eliminate tooth decay in school age children. The CDC Task Force on Community Preventive Services strongly recommends school-based dental sealant programs as an effective strategy to prevent tooth decay.
Many children are not likely to receive preventive dental treatments such as sealants and topical fluoride. To address this issue, the United States Public Health Service created a national objective in Healthy People 2010 calling for the placement of dental sealants in 50% of children aged 5-17 by 2014. Millions of children have had their teeth sealed. Sealants are recommended by the American Dental Association, the Surgeon General, the American Public Health Association and many other organizations.
The objective of Dental Sealants and More’s program follows these recommendations to provide preventive dental treatments including sealants and topical fluoride.
In addition, our team is devoted to recognizing children in need of restorations (fillings, crowns, etc.) or urgent dental treatment (for dental pain or infection) and arranging referrals to their family dentist or community health clinic for follow-up care.
